Journey to the crown: An exclusive interview with Lavanya Das, Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 finalist
Lavanya Das from Odisha has been selected as one of the finalists for the nation’s biggest and most prestigious beauty pageant for teenagers and adolescents - Miss Teen Diva. Born in Jeypore, Lavanya is student of architecture at the KIIT School of Architecture and Planning. She is based in Bhubaneswar and has been part of a series of national and international beauty pageants. She is an international award winning painter and event presenter. This young beauty pageant prodigy speaks 3 languages including English, Hindi and Odia. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High Magazine, she talks about her preparations for the Miss Teen Diva finals and her journey till now.
Q. Many congratulations to you for getting selected for the national finals of Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 competition. How does it feel? What were the first thoughts that crossed your mind when you got the news that you have gotten selected to compete at the 2024 Miss Teen Diva contest?
Answer: It really feels surreal to be a part of this resplendent platform indeed. I am absolutely thrilled and honored to get a chance to be part of this pageant and present my talents and advocate for causes that are close to my heart. I am really excited and looking forward to meet the whole team of Miss Teen Diva competition and all of my fellow beautiful co-contestants and learn a lot from the experiences lasting for a lifetime.
Q. Tell us more about the place you belong to.
Answer: I belong to the state of art, culture, dance and amazing temple architecture - Odisha. This is the land of divinity and spirituality, best known as the land of the Lord of the Universe, the Lord Jagannath. Starting from the Odia cuisines having a brilliant array of flavors and texture to our Odia festivals which are a tapestry of devotion and celebration, all of it gives out the best of Odisha, India's best kept secret’
Q. Enlighten us in regards to your preparations for the upcoming Miss Teen Diva competition.
Answer: I have been preparing tremendously hard for this pageant starting from soft skills training, daily hours of ramp walk practice, vocabulary practice and controlling my diet with daily gym workout sessions. I have been able to understand the points where I am lacking through our weekly classes of Miss Teen Diva and every day I get new things to work on to enhance my knowledge even more to be well prepared in the best way possible; thanks to my team captain and mentors of Miss Teen Diva.
Q. In your opinion, what are the qualities / traits that you believe could help you move ahead in the competition?
Answer: Beauty with brains but being equally down to earth with kindness, gratitude and understanding about the world is going to help me move ahead in this pageant. I think my determination, respect towards others and commitment towards the title is definitely going to help me a lot throughout the pageant.
Q. Tell us something about your hobbies and areas of interest.
Answer: I love semi classical dancing and sometimes singing apart from that I am a TEDx anchor and an international award winning painter.
Q. Any quote or saying that has a profound impact on you.
Answer: When fate whispers, ‘You can’t withstand the storm,’ you need to whisper back. ‘I am the storm.’
This saying has helped me recover and survive through countless challenges and failures in life and has motivated me to rise like a phoenix with new aspirations and passion every time life throws challenges at me.
Q. Who / what is your biggest support system?
Answer: My biggest support system is my parents who have supported me endlessly in this pageant world. No matter what the rest of the stereotypical world says or thinks, my parents have always been by my side to uplift my spirit and teach me that nothing matters in this world more than my dreams. They are the one who have taught me to fight for my dreams and passion that sets my soul on fire. Thus, they are my greatest support system.
Q. When you look back in time, what is the biggest life lesson that you have learnt?
Answer: The biggest life lesson I have learnt is taking my failures as a blessing in disguise because till date there have been a number of times where I have failed, be it academically, in personal life or even in my early teenage years trying my luck in pageantry. Failing does hurt at that point really but gradually as time passed I realized there was a reason I failed and there was a reason I got to try the second time; this time stronger and in a better way. All that matters is the way I see myself and when I fail I see myself not as a failure but a person trying just one more time for reaching what she aimed for just with a lot more better and a stronger approach.
Q. In your opinion, what is the best way to handle criticism?
Answer: The best way to handle criticism is to accept that in a constructive way rather than getting offended instantly, we need to be looking for points that might be valuable in that criticism and might help us to work on ourselves but at times certain criticisms are too pointless and all we need to do is judge with points to consider and improve in ourselves and deal with the criticism peacefully in a constructive manner.
Q. One piece of advice that you would like to share with the individuals who want to join the beauty pageant industry.
Answer: Not most part of the world it but I have to admit being in a pageant world is the best possible for an individual’s all round personality development . it is the most constructive environment where one is surrounded by like minded individuals having a passion for fashion and meaningful self representation . The most favourite part of mine is making mistakes and getting guidance and learning from that is totally normal in the pageant world.Having proper mentors who very minutely point out our mistakes and teach us skills is a great privilege towards being a perfect individual in the long run and all these learnings are going to be very useful in every sphere of life .
