In conversation with Amos MS Dawngzuala, the state director of Miss Universe India from Mizoram

Amos MS Dawngzuala from Aizawl has been appointed the state director of the Miss Universe India competition for Mizoram. He is one of the founding members of the CG Entertainment (the parent company of the Miss Universe Mizoram organization) and will be responsible for the selection of the representative(s) from the state of Mizoram for the upcoming Miss Universe India contest – the Indian preliminary event to the world’s biggest beauty pageant, Miss Universe. Amos holds a master’s degree in philosophy and is an educator, author and publisher. Following his intellectual pursuits, he went on to publish his first academic piece of work, Hringnun Keh Them in 2021. Alongside that he has also represented Mizoram at the 100 language poetry festival and is an executive member of the Mizo Poetry Society. This highly intellectual multiponetialite has held a series of prominent positions throughout his academic journey vividly displaying his strong leadership skills and academic competence. He has served as the president of the student council at Pachhunga University College; the General Secretary of the student union at Cherhlun Higher Secondary School and the student body president at St. Mariah Goretti’s School. Earlier this year, in 2024, he acquired the rights to select Mizoram’s representative(s) to the 2024 Miss Universe India competition. From being an academic prodigy to joining the pageant industry, his journey has seen several crucial events and milestone that have shaped him in to the person that is he is today. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High magazine, he talks about his journey so far and what can be expected from the state of Mizoram at the upcoming Miss Universe India competition.

Q. Many congratulations to you on being appointed the state director for the Miss Universe India competition. How does it feel to shoulder such a prominent responsibility?
Answer:
Thank you so much, this is beyond a dream come true. I understand that being in this position is a heavy responsibility but I feel like my whole life has been preparing me for this moment. So I am ready to do a great job being Mizoram's state director.

Q. What inspired you to take up the role of a beauty pageant director, and what keeps you motivated in this industry?
Answer:
I live in a state where pageantry has a rich history and a strong legacy, and our beauty queens are held in high regard. And as avid pageant enthusiast, I believe it's time we go all out for the national titles. I believe it's time that we show the nation what we are capable of doing. The dream of seeing a candidate from my state, wearing the sash of India at the Miss Universe competition is my biggest motivation in this industry. I know that the little state of Mizoram can win another Miss Universe crown for India.

Q. Please tell us about your journey in the beauty pageant industry. When did it begin and how has your experience been so far?
Answer:
Since childhood, I've been passionate about pageants, actively involved in organizing beauty pageants since my school days. In college, I competed in the Mister PUC contest, where i placed in the top 10. Representing my state at the Mega Mister North East competition was a highlight of my career. It led me to mentoring and guiding contestants for various pageants. Today, I'm grateful that I joined hands with the Glamanand Group and the Miss Universe India organization. It will help me support the young talent of my state and will provide them with a diverse range of opportunities.

Q. How do you stay attuned to ever-evolving trends and preferences within the beauty pageant industry?
Answer:
I believe that true beauty is timeless and transcends every era. However, our approach to finding that has been dynamic.  I understand the power pageant industry has for the betterment of the society and of the world and as a fan of it, doing my research and keeping up-to-date with what's going on in the beauty pageant industry is a part of my regular activity, At times it's difficult to keep up, but networking and communicating with people within the industry helps a lot.

Q. What is going to be your plan of action now that you have been assigned the responsibility of selecting your region’s representative(s) for the prestigious Miss Universe India 2024 competition?
Answer:
This is going to be the first ever audition for any major national pageant in Mizoram, so in honour of that our team, CG Entertainment is organizing a One Month Free Pageant Training program open for all where we invited experts in the fashion industry, academics and different other fields. We have been working hard planning this historic audition in the most colourful and memorable way. That CG Entertainment is doing all it can to find the right girl, and that we are doing all we can for this event

Q. Can you please share some behind-the-scenes insights into the planning and execution of the selection process that will be conducted to select your region's representatives) for the national finals of Miss Universe India 2024?
Answer:
The pageant system in our state is very different from the rest of India and in fact the whole world. So we have to start from the very grassroots in order to introduce a new pageant system. Our goal is to bring out the hidden magic hiding in the hills of Mizoram and for that, we have been scouting every nook and corner of the state, spreading the word and hyping the events in order to select the best representative, worthy of winning the big crown.

Q. What qualities are you going to be looking for while selecting your region’s representative(s) for the upcoming Miss Universe India competition?
Answer:
The individual representing our state is going to be a pioneer, first girl from Mizoram on the journey to Miss Universe. So I want someone who has the potential to leave a strong impact and a great legacy for other to follow. I seek someone who can inspire future generations of young girls and boys in Mizoram and beyond—a person imbued with passion, capable of setting the bar high enough that it could resonate with the standards of the Miss Universe competition. We are in search of multifaceted and versatile individual who epitomizes the core values of Miss Universe and the what the pageant stands for.

Q. Once the selection of the representative(s) is done, will there be any training program that the representative(s) will be attending prior to heading to the national finals?
Answer:
Absolutely. In fact, the entire state is assembling in order to prepare our first ever representative for the Miss Universe India stage. Once our representative is crowned, she will be guided and facilitated all the way, throughout her journey.

Q. What is the most crucial piece of advice that you would like to share with the individuals that want to join the beauty pageant industry?
Answer:
If you have a dream, the chase it with all your heart and soul. Never doubt, weather an individual from the remote hills of India can make their dreams a reality. All it takes is self-belief. Don't let fear deter you from chasing your aspirations. This quote has a profound impact on me, ”If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough.” I pass this message on to you because you have every right to dream big. Always believe in yourself.

Answer:
