In conversation with Nitu Kumari, the state directress of Miss Universe India from Bihar
Nitu Kumari from Patna has been appointed the state directress of the Miss Universe India competition for Bihar. She is the founder of the Miss Universe Bihar organization and will be responsible for the selection of the representative(s) from the state of Bihar for the upcoming Miss Universe India contest – the Indian preliminary event to the world’s biggest beauty pageant, Miss Universe. Mrs. Nitu Kumari hails from Gaya in Bihar and is currently based in Patna. She holds a master’s degree in computer science and is currently working as a health and fitness coach. She wants to use the Miss Universe Bihar platform to provide more opportunities to the women in her state and to create awareness on mental as well as physical well-being. This highly qualified fitness expert has also been awarded with the Woman Achievers Award and she has already given the state of Bihar a very talented beauty queen in form of her daughter. She is the mother of the Miss Teen Earth India 2024 winner, Tanishqa Sharma. It was because of her daughter that she took her first steps in the world of pageants. She always wanted her daughter to win a beauty pageant and represent India internationally. In 2024, this dream of hers came true alongside it also marked her debut in the pageant world and made her the license holder of India’s foremost beauty pageant. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High magazine, she shares her experience regarding joining the beauty pageant industry and what can be expected from the newly launched Miss Universe Bihar organization.
Q. Many congratulations to you on being appointed the state director for the Miss Universe India competition. How does it feel to shoulder such a prominent responsibility?
Answer: Thank you. It's an immense honor and responsibility. I feel excited and motivated to make a positive impact in the pageant industry, especially in Bihar where there are limited opportunities for girls.
Q. What inspired you to take up the role of a beauty pageant director, and what keeps you motivated in this industry?
Answer: My daughter's pageant journey inspired me to become a pageant director; she won Miss Teen Earth India 2024. I was motivated by my daughter. Seeing her moving ahead in life and living her dreams made me realize there are several girls in my state who also have similar dreams but due to lack of support and presence of any credible platform, they often give up on their dreams. Thus, I want to provide a strong and credible platform to the young girls of my state where they come forward, show the world their talent, move ahead in their lives while fulfilling their dreams. This opportunity to create a platform for young women to showcase their talents and represent Bihar on a national stage keeps me motivated.
Q. Please tell us about your journey in the beauty pageant industry. When did it begin and how has your experience been so far?
Answer: My journey in the beauty pageant industry began with my daughter's participation in pageants. My experience has been rewarding, filled with challenges and learning opportunities. I have met many talented young women and have seen how pageants can positively impact their lives.
Q. How do you stay attuned to ever-evolving trends and preferences within the beauty pageant industry?
Answer: I stay attuned to industry trends by using the digital and online platform and staying updated with fashion industry news, interviews and social media. I also attend workshops and seminars to learn from industry experts and stay ahead of the curve.
Q. What is going to be your plan of action now that you have been assigned the responsibility of selecting your region’s representative(s) for the prestigious Miss Universe India 2024 competition?
Answer: My plan of action includes conducting a fair and transparent selection process to identify talented young women who embody the values of Miss Universe. I will also focus on providing training and mentorship to the selected candidates to prepare them for the national finals.
Q. Can you please share some behind-the-scenes insights into the planning and execution of the selection process that will be conducted to select your region’s representative(s) for the national finals of Miss Universe India 2024?
Answer: The selection process will involve a series of auditions and interviews to assess the candidates' communication skills, personality and talent. We will also focus on selecting candidates who are passionate about making a positive impact in their communities.
Q. What qualities are you going to be looking for while selecting your region’s representative(s) for the upcoming Miss Universe India competition?
Answer: I will be looking for the candidates who are confident, articulate and passionate about representing Bihar on a national stage while understanding that is not the end of it. They must resonate with the concepts and ideas of an empowered Indian woman of the 21st century. I will also look for candidates who are committed to making a positive impact in their communities and embody the values of Miss Universe. Additionally, I will seek a candidate who stands out on the international stage, as in international pageants, standing out is crucial for winning.
Q. Once the selection of the representative(s) is done, will there be any training program that the representative(s) will be attending prior to heading to the national finals?
Answer: Yes, we plan to provide training and mentorship to the selected candidates to prepare them for the national finals. The training program will focus on enhancing their communication skills, stage presence and overall confidence.
Q. What is the most crucial piece of advice that you would like to share with the individuals that want to join the beauty pageant industry?
Answer: My advice to aspiring pageant contestants is to be true to themselves, stay focused on their goals and never give up on their dreams. Pageantry is not just about beauty, it's about confidence, intelligence and making a positive impact in the world.

Answer: I would like to encourage young women in Bihar to dream big and believe in themselves. Miss Universe Bihar is a platform that can help you showcase your talents and represent our state on a national stage. I look forward to seeing many talented young women come forward and participate in Miss Universe Bihar 2024.
