Journey to the crown: An exclusive interview with Yashika Gour, Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 finalist
Yashika Gour from Madhya Pradesh has been selected as one of the finalists for the nation’s biggest and most prestigious beauty pageant for teenagers and adolescents - Miss Teen Diva. Born in Indore, Yashika is a student of B.Sc. at the Government Holkar Science College. A trained ballerina, she has always excelled in the academics and have topped the results during her school years. Yashika is a polyglot and can speak three languages including English, French and Hindi. In this exclusive interview with the Beauty High Magazine, she talks about her preparations for the Miss Teen Diva finals and her journey till now.
Q. Many congratulations to you for getting selected for the national finals of Miss Teen Diva 2023-24 competition. How does it feel? What were the first thoughts that crossed your mind when you got the news that you have gotten selected to compete at the 2023-24 Miss Teen Diva contest?
Answer: I feel blessed, blissful and blooming like the first beam of winter’s early morning sunshine. When I received the news about my selection in the Miss Teen Diva 2023 competition, to be completely honest - ‘is it really a reality’ - had been the very first thought that crossed my mind. It took me some time to soak the news in, but after it, I told myself that it is what it is. God has given me this opportunity to deliver the impact on the world and now I should be ready to burn like a sun so that I can spread shine like a sun.
Q. Tell us something about the place you belong to.
Answer: I come from a very beautiful city in central India - Indore. Indore has magnificently rich history and rapid industrialization. Along with being the cleanest city in India, and also the food capital of India and commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, it is famous for its cotton handloom industry, beautiful palaces and temples, street food, night markets, and more. Indore city presents a happy blend of historical past and promises of rapid future modernization.
Q. Enlighten us in regards to your preparations for the upcoming Miss Teen Diva competition.
Answer: A platform like a beauty pageant is so multicultural that to ace it, it requires a strong and resilient personality at every step. My preparations began with a zealous mindset and attentive time management for the contest and all segments. Also to groom my personality, I have started to observe things rather than just seeing them, I have started to act to inspire rather than just aspire, I have started believing and behaving like a queen, because I know I am the one.
Q. In your opinion, what are the qualities / traits that you believe could help you move ahead in the competition?
Answer: I believe my discipline, hard work and detail oriented mindset can benefit me to achieve the title of Miss Teen Diva. I think all the past winners have proven that the success, title and the crown all starts with the trait of confidence, lots of love and little dare, and my soul and personality completely convey these impressions.
Q. Tell us something about your hobbies and areas of interest.
Answer: I prefer being called as multifaceted person rather than king in one. Thus other than the lessons of physics and chemistry, I participate my spare time in dancing, writing, reading, and learning something extravaganza which is my favorite. So as this year I have learnt French, Ballet, hand embroidery and dress-making. Though I am not an expert in any of it, but it is a key way for me to express self-love.
Q. Any quote or saying that has a profound impact on you.
Answer: “Life is not easy for any of us. We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves, we must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained at any cost.” A quote by Marie Curie that has changed my view on how I see my life. It has instilled me confidence, courage and trust in myself with the belief that greatness does not come easy or fast but is reachable for all.
Q. Who / what is your biggest support system?
Answer: Undoubtedly my biggest support system has been my parents. My parents who have tolerated my tantrums, who took my mistakes in laughter, who believed in me during the times I had doubt on myself. They have always encouraged me, inspired me and motivated me. I cannot express my gratitude to have parents who are also my best friends and the best support system I could have ever asked for.
Q. When you look back in time, what is the biggest life lesson that you have learnt?
Answer: The biggest life lesson that I have learnt is to ‘live in the present moment and enjoy that moment to the fullest.’ Every day is a beginning of something new. Everyday teaches us something special. We should decipher the purpose of life in order to fill it with euphoria. Life is short enough to leave the crave for having some beautiful moments at the last breath and long enough to create more beautiful moments now.
Q. In your opinion, what is the best way to handle criticism?
Answer: Sometimes you can learn from criticism, but it can also be completely off-base at times. We should have a nice understanding to filter what to accept and what not to. Sometimes that makes us feel deficient, demotivated or disreputable, better is to treat it with ignorance. Words hurt because we take meaning from them. If we just hear the pronunciation, exclude the meaning from them, it could never make us feel like bad. How people make us feel completely depends on how we allow them to make us feel. It’s not the life if you don’t have enemies. Better be someone with your own thoughts and opinions than a people pleaser.
Q. One piece of advice that you would like to share with the individuals who want to join the beauty pageant industry.
Answer: From being a shy child to becoming someone who plucked up courage to enter the pageant world. My message to everyone with the same dream is to have a dare to start, courage to work hard, and prayers to keep it on. Every wish can only come true with the work, and as my favorite pageant queen has said, "A dream is a picture of a possibility and we should have a strong heart and a prepared mind to turn that into reality."
Q. Lastly, any message for the readers.
Answer: This news beamed in my life at the time when I was almost going to stop thinking about it.
My message to everyone reading this is that “miracles can happen at the time when you are least expecting it.” Just keep trying to give your best for everything. If you didn’t got the rose, it maybe because a whole flower bouquet has been waiting in your destiny.
